The best programs treat leadership as something that gets developed — not assumed.

Did you know that many college programs appoint team captains based on athletic performance, but athletic ability and leadership ability are two entirely different skill sets? A great athlete knows how to perform under pressure, push through discomfort, and compete.

A great leader knows how to bring others along, communicate through conflict, build accountability, and hold a team together when things aren't working.

These skills overlap — but they don't automatically transfer. A captain who hasn't been taught how to lead is being set up to fail in front of their teammates.
